Charles Dickens (1812-1836) Charles Dickens, the son of John Dickens and Elizabeth Dickens, was born at 13 Mile End Terrace (now 393 Old Commercial Road), Landport, just outside the old town of Portsmouth, on 7th February 1812. John Dickens was the son of William Dickens and Elizabeth Ball Dickens.
